WASHINGTON (TNND) — House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries and New York Congressman Mike Lawler were going at it over the government shutdown.

Why don’t you just keep your mouth shut?” Jeffries said to Lawler as the two exchanged words on Capitol Hill earlier this month.

The argument erupted after Lawler confronted Jeffries about a temporary extension of Affordable Care Act tax credits.

Is that the way to talk?” Lawler asked Jeffries. My constituents are suffering because of your ridiculous ploy,” Lawler added.

The disagreement is perhaps a good representation of just how far both sides are when it comes to funding the federal government, with Wednesday marking day 29 of the shutdown.

This shutdown needs to come to an end,” Lawler told The National News Desk’s Jan Jeffcoat during a one-on-one interview. “The House passed a clean CR well over a month ago now to fund the government, including critical programs like SNAP and WIC. Chuck Schumer and Senate Democrats are refusing to pass the clean CR – the same CR they’ve passed when Joe Biden was president. So, this needs to come to an end.”Comment with Bubbles
