A Farmers Branch police pursuit ended with gunfire after a suspect rammed two patrol cars, officials say
FARMERS BRANCH, Texas — Farmers Branch police shot at a suspect after he rammed a patrol vehicle during a chase Thursday, the department said.
A vending company employee reported a company box truck had been stolen in the 14000 block of Dallas Parkway in Farmers Branch. Officials say the vending company was able to give officers real-time location updates, which helped police track down the truck.Â
Police tried to stop the truck, but the driver fled, initiating a pursuit, officials said. The suspect, identified as Travis Stone, 31, allegedly drove erratically during the pursuit, at times traveling in the wrong direction, police said.
Stone allegedly stopped the vehicle in a residential area in the 12300 block of Brittany Circle in Dallas, reversed, and struck an occupied patrol unit. Police said he drove toward officers, striking another patrol unit. This is when an officer shot their weapon. Stone was not hit by the gunfire, police said.
The suspect surrendered and was taken into custody without further incident. Police said Stone is wanted on a full extradition warrant from the Arizona Department of Corrections for a parole violation related to armed robbery.
The officer who discharged their weapon has been placed on routine administrative leave pending review. Two investigations into the incident are underway.
One is an internal affairs review to determine compliance with department policies in the incident. The Dallas Police Department and Dallas County District Attorney’s Office have launched a criminal investigation.
