EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — The YWCA El Paso del Norte Region held its 31st Annual Women’s Luncheon on Thursday, April 23, with featured guest Paula Abdul.

The pop icon and award-winning choreographer is a dedicated advocate for animal welfare, arts education, and cancer support.

YWCA officials stated that Abdul’s appearance brings a message centered on resilience, creativity, and using one’s voice for meaningful change.

“It was an extraordinary day,” Sereka Barlow, CEO for YWCA El Paso, said. “The room was filled with 2,000 supporters of our mission to empower women and eliminate racism.”

The YWCA’s Women’s Luncheon is one of El Paso’s most impactful annual events, raising critical funds for programs that serve women, children, and families across the region, according to the organization.

Barlow stated that the YWCA provides after-school care, child care, early childhood education, and has several shelters for those fleeing domestic violence.

The event happened at the El Paso Convention Center, located at One Civic Center Plaza.

“YWCA El Paso is always in need of people who are really passionate about using their time, their talent, and their treasure,” said Barlow.
