Houston is about to get a taste of a popular West Burger burger restaurant. Killer Burger has officially announced the opening date of its Sawyer Heights restaurant at 1909 Taylor St. After months of renovating the space formerly home to Southwell’s Hamburger Grill, the new burger joint will be open for business beginning May 6.

Killer Burger, known for its signature stacked bacon burgers and craft beers on tap, was founded in Portland in 2010 and has grown to more than two dozen locations—with Texas marking its first locations outside of the Pacific Northwest. The burger chain’s Lone Star State expansion began in San Antonio in 2024. Just last fall, Killer Burger opened a second location there and has another opening soon in Austin.

“Texas is our launchpad for expansion in the South and Midwest, and we have a lot more in the works,” founder and franchisee Thomas “TJ” Southard previously said in a press release.

In the words of Killer Burger CEO Adam Sanders, “Texas is rich with opportunity.” Reflecting on the opening of a second location just one year after the brand’s debut, Sanders noted that the expansion “shows our commitment to aggressively growing in new and existing markets, all while serving each community the high-quality burgers in a fun, memorable atmosphere we’re known for.”

Killer Burger’s menu is designed to “redefine the true American diner burger to the modern world.” In reality, that looks like beef burgers served in three sizes (pint, original and double) from the Classic burger with bacon, crispy lettuce, tomato and cheese to more creative pairings like the Peanut Butter Pickle Bacon burger with mayo and grilled onions.
