Houston’s gaming community will have a new destination with the arrival of Activate in Friendswood.

This is the third Houston location for the live-action gaming concept. It will be housed in a 12,000-square-foot building at 199240 Gulf Freeway in front of Baybrook Mall, according to a news release.

The site was chosen because it’s close to Baybrook Mall and surrounding businesses in a city with an average household income of nearly $130,000, said Cushman and Wakefield, the firm representing Activate in the lease negotiations.

“Baybrook Mall is ideally suited for the firm’s expansion with this freestanding site in a high-income trade area, as well as the location’s status as a destination for dining, shopping, play and entertainment,” Eric Lestin, managing director and retail advisory services lead in Houston for the firm, said in a statement.

Activate is a live-action gaming concept founded in Canada that has become a destination for gamers, with over 70 locations in seven countries and a massive social media presence.

The Activate venue houses gaming rooms that feature everything from digital dodgeball, laser tag and a hoops court to the Tik Tok-viral Mega Grid.

Cushman and Wakefield also represented Activate in its leases for locations in The Woodlands, at 536 Sawdust Road, and Katy, at 20225 Katy Freeway.

There is no date yet on when the Friendswood games will begin.

Activate features all-you-can-play passes with access to all the games and choose-your-own-adventure gaming experiences.

Gaming guests in groups of two to five players compete and accumulate points, earn prizes and level up as they track each other’s progress using Activate’s electronic RFID wristbands.
