HOUSTON — With Halloween just a few days away, the Texas Department of Public Safety is reminding families to stay alert and safe when trick-or-treaters hit the streets.
If you’ll be behind the wheel this Halloween, extra foot traffic is expected in neighborhoods, especially between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m., peak trick-or-treating hours.
Drivers will need to slow down, stay alert, and put the phones away. If you’re going to be using a navigation or music app, set it up before you start driving. Drivers should use extra caution at intersections and driveways, keeping an eye out for children darting between parked cars or simply crossing the street.
If you plan to celebrate, make a plan to get home safe. Don’t drink and drive
For parents, keep little ones on the sidewalks and in crosswalks. Carry a flashlight or glow sticks if possible, and avoid dark costumes that tend to blend into the street.
