Man, 68, dies after West El Paso crash; police say he crossed outside crosswalk

EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14/CBS4) — A 68-year-old man was killed Thursday night after he was hit by a car in West El Paso.

According to the El Paso Police Department, Ismael Botelo died in the hospital from injuries he sustained after he was hit by a 2024 Mitsubishi Mirage on the 2400 block of N. Mesa Street, near the McDonald’s by the University of Texas at El Paso.

EPPD said Botelo crossed the street without using the crosswalk when he was hit.

According to police numbers, this is the 17th traffic death of 2026, compared to 21 at the same time in 2025.
