LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – Much of the area woke up to frigid air on what has been the coldest morning of the year so far.
A Freeze Warning remains in effect until 10 AM. But don’t put those plants back out just yet.
Freeze watch and warning(KCBD)
A Freeze Watch will go into effect later tonight through Thursday morning for areas off the Caprock with sub-freezing temperatures as low as 27 degrees possible. This is for Childress, Cottle, Dickens, Garza, Kent, King, Motley, Stonewall, and Hall counties.
Otherwise, expect conditions to remain dry, sunny, and breezy.

We won’t have the wind that we saw yesterday, but it will still be a breezy cool day. Winds are expected to pick back up again during the afternoon hours peaking around N 20-25 mph.
Highs today(KCBD)
Highs will struggle to reach the upper 50s to low 60s, making today the coldest day of the week. Lows will drop into sub-freezing temperatures.
Another frigid night ahead(KCBD)
By Thursday, things start to turn around. Sunshine and light southwest breeze will help temperatures jump 10 to 15 degrees from today’s highs.
Temperatures will warm back up this weekend(KCBD)
Friday stays similar, mild and dry, before a weak cold front drifts through Friday night. That front may shave off a few degrees, but no major cooldown is expected.
From there, a ridge of high pressure builds in over the weekend, ushering in dry skies and stead warm up early through next week.
