The No. 4-ranked Midland High softball team appeared determined to close out its playoff series as early as possible on Saturday morning.

Malyah Carrillo pitched a one-hitter and Marley Porter had four RBI to propel Midland High to an 11-0 win over the Lady Rams in five innings at Martin Field.
The Lady Bulldogs (33-3) swept the three-game series, extended their win streak to 19 games, and they advance to the area round for the sixth straight season when they will face either Weatherford or Trophy Club Nelson at a time, date and location to be determined.
Midland’s blowout win on Saturday was much different from Friday when it rallied for three runs in the bottom of the seventh to beat Montwood, 7-6, on a walk-off two-run single from Mireya Rodriguez.
“We just know our level of ability that we’re able to play,” Porter said. “We know that yesterday wasn’t our best. We just came out here and decided to score every inning and we were going to do that no matter what it took.”

Porter added the Lady Dawgs had extra motivation to take care of business early on Saturday.
“We have prom tonight so we wanted to make sure we got to all of our appointments and we wanted the quickest way to do that,” Porter said.
Rodriguez plated a run with a sacrifice fly, Ryleigh Thiebaud added an RBI double, and Emeri Ream provided a run-scoring triple during the Lady Dawgs’ four-run first.
The Lady Bulldogs finished strong by scoring three runs apiece in the fourth and fifth innings.

Porter had a two-run single in the fourth and added an RBI double in the fifth.
“I think they came out, they were focused and they were able to able to start hitting from the very beginning and put some pressure on them,” Lady Dawgs coach Shawnda Vines said. “I think we had the ability to hang onto it and keep building. It was really fun to watch them locked in and scoring almost every inning, that’s hard to do against a quality team like that, so I was really, really proud of them.”
Carrillo was masterful in the circle as she issued no walks, while striking out two. Montwood’s only hit against Carrillo was a two-out triple from Jaeda Quinones in the third.
“We mainly stayed outside and threw changeups,” Carrillo said of the plan. “That really worked. That got grounders and pop ups and a couple of strikeouts.”

Added Vines: “She had a great game in the circle I thought. She kept them off the basepaths. They were very few solid base hits off of her and I thought she did an amazing job today.”
Porter was 3-for-3 with two runs scored and a sacrifice bunt; Kamryn Weir went 2-for-3 with runs scored and a walk; Emberlee Ybarra had an RBI single, a walk and a run scored; Rodriguez had a pair of sac flies; Thiebaud doubled twice; Ream was 2-for-3 with a run scored; Jordyn Arellano singled and scored; and Gabby Gomez singled, walked and scored twice.
Montwood’s season ends at 16-19-1.
