EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14/CBS4) — A video circulating online shows a traffic stop involving a professor from El Paso Community College that happened on Friday.

The professor who has been identified as Gene Thomas Morales livestreamed the encounter on his Facebook account.

The footage, recorded from inside a vehicle, captures Morales being pulled over by a uniformed police officer.

The officer approaches the driver’s side window and begins a conversation with the driver.

The interaction unfolds in broad daylight in what is to be a residential or low-traffic area, but it’s unknown where the incident took place.

Throughout the video, the officer is seen wearing standard tactical gear and sunglasses, speaking with the driver through the open window.

The professor, seated behind the wheel, responds while gesturing at times, suggesting an ongoing discussion about the reason for the stop.

While the exact cause of the traffic stop is unknown at this time.

At one point, the officer tells Morales he is under arrest and orders him to exit the vehicle.

The officer tells Morales multiple times to exit the vehicle, to which Morales refuses, the video shows.

Morales tells the officer that he will wait for the other police officer to arrive.

Moments later, another officer arrives at the scene, and Morales is removed from the vehicle by the officers.

Audio from the video captures him yelling and calling for help during the arrest, as it appears on the video that he was tased.

It’s unclear at the moment if he was tased.

Jail records show Morales was booked on April 25 on charges of resisting arrest, failure to identify, and speeding.

According to the EPCC website, Dr. Gene Morales is a History Lecturer from the EPCC-Mission Del Paso Campus.

KFOX14/CBS4 has reached out to the police for comment, but we received a response saying they will look into it and get back to us.

We have also reached out to EPCC for comment, but have not received a response.
