A casual dining chain with world-famous buttery rolls is expanding with a new overseas location. You probably wouldn’t have expected it, but Texas Roadhouse has a global reach.
While other Texas Roadhouses exist in Asia, this one, headed to Jamsil, will be its first-ever street-facing storefront, a corporation spokesperson tells MySA. The rest of the eateries are based inside malls, which can be harder to spot by residents running errands in urban areas.
Most locals can visualize the inside of the roadhouse in seconds. The wooden tables, neon signs, and western cartoon art immediately come to mind. Folks may be surprised to learn that the business, while Texas-themed, was founded elsewhere. After visiting the state, creator Kent Taylor was inspired by the family restaurants, smells, and music. The first location opened in Clarksville, Indiana, in 1993.
Since then, the chain has grown to more than 600 U.S. locations. Don’t feel too betrayed, though. Texas is home to 84, the most of any other state, according to data company ScrapeHero. Its impact transcends borders, as there are 62 internationally.
A viral video posted on TikTok last year shows the interiors reflect those of San Antonio’s. Baskets of bread with a side of butter are also served, according to the social media creator. When asked if it tasted the same as when prepared in America, the user said to their surprise, it did.
South Korea’s count will hit nine following the Jamsil property’s grand opening.
