The Patriots used their first seventh-round pick on a third quarterback.

The Patriots selected Texas Tech QB Behren Morton 234th overall on Day 3 of the draft.

Morton took a pre-draft visit with the Patriots and will start off his NFL career behind Drake Maye and Tommy DeVito.

The Texas Tech product is 6-foot-2, 218 pounds and competed 66% of his passes for 2,780 yards with 22 touchdowns and six interceptions as a senior. He rushed for seven career touchdowns over 45 games with 36 starts.

The Patriots needed a third developmental option after releasing backup Joshua Dobbs this offseason. DeVito was re-signed to a two-year contract this offseason.

Morton, 24, threw for 8,986 career yards with 71 touchdowns, 28 interceptions and a 62.9 completion percentage over five years at Texas Tech. He was a team captain for his final two years in 2024 and 2025.
