TYLER, Texas — Gov. Greg Abbott joined CHRISTUS Mother Frances Hospital Friday to dedicate a new Safe Haven Baby Box, providing an anonymous 24-hour surrender option for infants in East Texas.

Texas is adding more safe places for parents to leave their newborns if they are in a crisis. This comes after state leaders updated the “Baby Moses Law” to give struggling families more options.

The law says that parents can surrender unharmed infants under 60 days old at designated sites. Abbott praised the initiative as an “infrastructure of hope” for mothers in crisis.

During the visit, Abbott also toured the hospital’s new pediatric intensive care unit, the first facility of its type in the region.
