The SPCA of Texas has transported its 12,000th cat, Winster, as part of its Feline Transport program, which began almost four years ago.
Winster and 87 other cats of all ages, sizes and genders were transported to waiting families in Boston and New Hampshire on an ASPCA transport plane.
“This is a huge milestone not only for the SPCA of Texas, but also for cats in Texas. When you realize that, because cats in Texas breed all year round, those 12,000 homeless cats soon could have become more than 1 million unwanted cats,” SPCA of Texas said in a statement.
Winster was sent to Second Chance Animal Services in Boston with several other cats. The flight was loaded at approximately 8 a.m. and took off Saturday morning on the Texas Jet tarmac at Perot Field Fort Worth Alliance Airport
According to the SPCA of Texas, this transport is also important because it marks the saving of 24,000 cat lives through the SPCA of Texas Feline Transport program. There are 12,000 that have moved to other shelters in the country and 12,000 cats that take their places in North Texas shelters and rescues.
The SPCA of Texas Feline Transport team and the ASPCA collaborate to transport 50 to 120 cats to shelters throughout the US every other week.
