The Los Angeles Rams didn’t get a crack at Arch Manning this year after the Texas quarterback chose to return to Austin, but they are bringing in his backup. According to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network, the Rams are signing former Texas quarterback Matthew Caldwell as an undrafted free agent.

Caldwell only attempted 11 passes last season, completing eight of them for 85 yards and a touchdown.

Caldwell bounced around in college, playing at Jacksonville State, Gardner Webb and Troy before landing at Texas. In 2024 at Troy, he threw for 1,608 yards and 13 touchdowns with eight interceptions.

Caldwell backed up Manning at Texas last season but was barely needed. He’ll now compete for a chance to make the Rams’ roster, though that seems unlikely with Matthew Stafford, Ty Simpson and Stetson Bennett all ahead of him on the depth chart.
