Late explosion powers Tech to series sweep of New Mexico

Red Raider baseball falls short as Oklahoma State takes series with 9-8 win

  • April 26, 2026

LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – A late-inning rally falls short for Texas Tech baseball (22-21, 6-14 Big 12) as the Oklahoma State Cowboys take the series with a 9-8 win Saturday afternoon at Dan Law Field. This is also their sixth-straight conference loss and their fifth-consecutive series loss in Big 12 play.

The Red Raiders took a 6-3 lead into the seventh until the Cowboys answered with a four-run inning that started off with a home run from OSU’s Alex Conover.

While trailing 9-6 in the eighth, Tech closed the gap as Jace Souza and Logan Hughes both drove in runs to bring the Red Raiders within one. In the ninth inning, Matt Quintanar and Robin Villanueve were both on base with no outs. However, Coleman Ryan struck out swinging and Kyeler Thompson grounded into a double play.

In spite of the loss, the Tech pitchers struck out 14 batters. Jackson Burns had six K’s, and former New Home Leopard Logan Addison fanned five.

The Red Raiders will try to end their Big 12 slump Sunday morning in their final game of the Oklahoma State series. First pitch scheduled for 11 a.m.
