55-year-old was taken to University Medical Center in Lubbock
LUBBOCK, TX, (April 24, 2026) – One person died and another was injured in a crash Friday morning near Idalou in Lubbock County, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS).
Michael Charles Proa, 55, was injured after a two-vehicle crash Friday morning near Idalou in Lubbock County, DPS said.
The incident happened on U.S. Highway 62/82 and North County Road 3000.
DPS investigators said a 26-year-old Lubbock resident was traveling southbound on CR 3000, approaching the intersection with U.S. 62, where a stop sign controls traffic. Meanwhile, a vehicle driven by 55-year-old Michael Charles Proa was headed west on the highway toward the intersection with CR 3000 when the 26-year-old driver pulled out in front of Proa’s vehicle, resulting in a collision. The 26-year-old driver suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene.
Proa was transported to University Medical Center in Lubbock for treatment of moderate injuries.
The crash remains under investigation.
