HOUSTON – Houston police are investigating a drive-by shooting that left a Precinct 1 deputy injured early Sunday morning.

North Patrol officers were dispatched at about 1:06 a.m. to the 200 block of Burress Street in Houston.

When officers arrived, they found the victim—identified as a male Precinct 1 deputy—inside the residence, lying in his bed with a gunshot wound to the abdomen, police said. Family members, including children, were inside the home at the time of the shooting.

Investigators said no suspect or vehicle description was immediately available. Officers were canvassing the area for surveillance video and witnesses as the investigation continued. Police said a motive has not been determined, and it is unknown whether the shooting was targeted.

Police said the deputy was taken to the hospital and is in stable condition. HPD is handling the investigation.
