Because each room is visible to the next, Lawson, who designed the whole project remotely, connected the flow by laying the same jute rug on every floor, then painting all the window frames Cola by Farrow & Ball to give them “gravity.” Together, the trio then moved from room to room, figuring out what was there and what was needed. As comfort was key in the sunroom and library where a daybed became a daily napping spot, the windows were covered in custom Pindler curtain fabrics to withstand the sun. Lawson found a vintage McGuire chair with proportions that fit the room. “I wanted them to arrive in this room and feel they’re in a different place,” Lawson says. The homeowners were open to adding color, pattern, and textiles—all Lawson signatures—to anchor the spaces. In the living room, a Navajo blanket from Shiprock in Santa Fe hangs above the sofa, and in the bedroom, an antique patchwork chintz quilt covers the bed.
