Samad Taylor pushed hard for a spot on the Padres’ opening day roster during spring training.

He’s still fighting to stay on their radar at Triple-A El Paso.

The 27-year-old Taylor hit his fourth homer during a three-hit game, leading Triple-A El Paso to a 9-5 win over visiting Reno.

Taylor (.936 OPS) also drove doubled while driving in four runs and scoring twice.

He also started for the first time this season at second base, where he has 540 starts in the minors.

Center fielder Jase Bowen (.968 OPS) went 2-for-4 with a walk, an RBI and a run scored and left fielder Nick Schnell (.901 OPS) went 1-for-3 with a double, an RBI, a walk and three runs scored.

Left-hander Jackson Wolf (1-2, 4.66 ERA) allowed four runs — three earned — in five innings in the win.

Left-hander Yuki Matsui (3.72 ERA) struck out two over two scoreless innings, his longest appearances yet while rehabbing his groin injury with El Paso.

The Chihuahuas are 12-15.

Amarillo 3, Missions 2: RHP Ian Koenig (5.40 ERA) struck out three over three scoreless innings in his first start off the IL. LHP Omar Cruz (0.00 ERA) struck out three over two scoreless innings. RHP Francis Peña (0-2, 1.64 ERA) allowed two unearned over two innings in the loss. LF Tirso Ornelas (.635 OPS) went 1-for-5 with a double and a run scored. SS Carson Tucker (.806 OPS) went 1-for-3 with a triple, a walk and an RBI.

 

HIGH SINGLE-A FORT WAYNE (7-14)

Wisconsin 8, TinCaps 0: RHP Abraham Parra (0-1, 3.12) allowed four runs — three earned — in 4⅔ innings in the loss. Two of the TinCaps’ five hits went for extra bases—a double each from 1B Jack Costello (.646 OPS) and LF Jake Cunningham (.963 OPS).

 

LOW SINGLE-A LAKE ELSINORE (12-9)

Storm 5, Visalia 2: SS Jorge Quintana (.597 OPS) went 1-for-3 with his first homer. 3B Bradley Frye (1.084 OPS) went 1-for-3 with a triple, two RBIs and a run scored. CF Ryan Wideman (.985 OPS) went 1-for-3 with a run scored and two steals, giving him a system-best 16 on the season. LHP Javier Chacon (3-0, 1.80 ERA) threw two scoreless innings in relief for the win. The Storm went 6-0 on their homestand.
