Texas has had many notable figures in its nearly 200-year existence, but who among them stands out the most? This past weekend, a group of Texans took to Reddit to answer this very question. While many famous names were mentioned, one larger-than-life figure seemed to take the cake.
Redditor Leading-Morning7550 asked the question, “Who is the best figure in Texas history?” on Friday, April 24. Over 200 people shared their answers, many choosing from some of the biggest names in Texas history: Sam Houston, Juan Seguin, Ann Richards, Lyndon B. Johnson and even George Strait and Beyoncé. However, while not a real-life, the star of the beloved Fox/Hulu animated series King of the Hill received more support than all others.
“Hank Hill,” Ok-disaster2022 replied in the thread, receiving 345 upvotes.
Even more agreed, with foo_fighter88 saying “end of discussion right here” and truth-4-sale saying the OP should “close the thread.” Others chimed in with Hank’s notable phrases, like “I tell you hwat,” “yup” and “uh huh.”

MyGardenOfPlants jokingly protested, saying, “Texan my a**, he was born in the ladies room of Yankee Stadium.” To which Captain_Wobbles reminded holks, “Hey man, he changed planes in Dallas. He’s a Texan.”
King of the Hill first premiered on Fox in 1997, introducing the world to Arlen, Texas, the Hill family, Dale Gribble, Bill Dauterive, Luanne Platter, Boomhauer and many more colorful characters. The Mike Judge-created show ran for 13 seasons from 1997 to 2010, before a Hulu revival in 2025.
