More than three decades after their clash in the 1994 World Cup, stars from the United States and Brazil national teams will meet again in North Texas.
The legends match will take place at 4 p.m. May 17 at Choctaw Stadium in Arlington.
Among the confirmed Brazilian figures are 1994 World Cup Golden Ball winner Romário, his attacking partner Bebeto — who scored the winning goal against the United States — and defender Jorginho.
“That may have been the toughest match of our 1994 World Cup campaign,” Bebeto recently recalled.
The former striker noted that the match was played on U.S. Independence Day, and that Brazil had to play much of the game with ten men after Leonardo was sent off in the 44th minute.
“The United States attacked us and created chances, but fortunately we managed to score and move forward on our path to the title,” Bebeto added. Romário provided the assist on the goal.
The Round of 16 match, played in Palo Alto, Calif., ended 1–0 in favor of Brazil with Bebeto scoring in the 73rd minute.
On the U.S. side, 1994 World Cup stars Tab Ramos, John Harkes and Marcelo Balboa will lead the team appearing at Choctaw Stadium. FC Dallas legend Kenny Cooper will also participate.
The match will cap off a full day of entertainment, including pregame activities.
Tickets go on sale Tuesday at 94revival.com, with prices starting at $15.
