A busy stretch of a San Antonio highway is shut down after an 18-wheeler crashed on Tuesday, April 28. Authorities say it happened at around 6:40 a.m.

The Converse Police Department said in a social media statement that the incident occurred on the southbound lanes of Loop 1604. The area between Rocket Lane and Lower Seguin Road is closed as a result. The traffic monitoring site SigAlert shows that vehicles are at a complete stop near the address. Those who are moving are doing so at 1-3 mph. Cars are backed up to FM-78.

Drivers are being asked to avoid the site because first responders and cleanup crews are on scene and will remain there for a while. No injuries were reported in the collision, but photos show the trailer sustained severe damage, with its middle completely bent inwards.

“Please avoid the area and seek alternate routes,” the Converse Police Department said in a post. “Use caution and watch for emergency personnel if you are nearby.”

Police expect the lanes to reopen at 12 p.m. today. Until then, commuters are encouraged to take an alternate route to their destination. Make sure to visit the MySA traffic page for the latest transportation news, including traffic delays and construction projects around San Antonio.
