Family and Wise County officials have identified the man who died Saturday night when a tornado swept through a Wise County town.
Juan Madrid died after an EF-2 tornado hit his home in Runaway Bay, according to his daughter Jackeline Madrid and Wise County Judge J.D. Clark.
Madrid’s family has set up a fundraiser through Acts 4 Others as they recover from the tornado and the loss of Madrid, Clark shared in a social media post. Madrid’s wife, their youngest son and Jackeline were also at the home and injured during the tornado, according to the fundraiser.
Madrid was one of two people who died during the storm Saturday. A 69-year-old woman also died in a mobile home just south of Springtown, according to Parker County officials. While county officials have said the woman’s death was related to the storm, the National Weather Service said she was found in a home outside the tornado’s damage track.
The woman’s identity has not been confirmed to The Dallas Morning News.
Disaster declarations have been issued in both Springtown and Runaway Bay as each try to recover from the storm damage and assist residents who were displaced.
As of Tuesday, Springtown ISD remains closed after receiving reports that 33.66% of its community is still without power, according to a statement on the district’s site.
Emergency response specialists including fire departments, the American Red Cross and The Texas Division of Emergency Management have been helping both Parker and Wise counties.
