City officials said funding will expand no-cost pet sterilization in high-need areas through local animal welfare partners.
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The Corpus Christi City Council has approved $250,000 in funding to expand free spay-and-neuter services for eligible pet owners, aiming to reduce stray animal populations and improve public safety.
The funding will be evenly divided between two local organizations, The Cattery, Inc., and the South Texas Animal Rescue Group (STAR), with each receiving $125,000.
The partnership operates through Corpus Christi Animal Care Services to provide no-cost sterilization services to residents in targeted high-need areas.
The program includes full veterinary care, including pre-surgery health evaluations, the spay or neuter procedure, and post-operative recovery services.
Officials say these measures are designed to reduce the number of stray and roaming dogs in the city.
Services will primarily be available to residents in City Council Districts 1, 2, and 3, where animal-related service calls and concentrations of lower-income households are highest.
Eligible ZIP codes include 78401, 78405, 78408, 78411, 78412, and 78415.
While focused on those areas, the Director of Animal Care Services may also issue vouchers to residents outside the designated ZIP codes if additional need is identified.
