LUBBOCK COUNTY, Texas (KCBD) – Students with disabilities celebrated their first field day at Shallowater High School this morning.
The 65 students are with the Honda Shared Services Agency, a union of school districts that teaches life skills. It includes students from Abernathy, Hale Center, New Deal, Olton and Shallowater.
Field day is intended to build friendship, inclusion and acceptance.
“I met so many friends, there are too much to count, but they’re really fun to hang out with,” London Williams, a Shallowater High School student, said. “I enjoy doing a lot of sports, it’s really fun to get that motion.”
The Honda SSA also uses a buddy system to partner kids in special education with other students. The pairs are meant to help both students forge a relationship while participating in friendly competition and a meal.
