Honda of Boerne is on track to open by summer 2026 after nearly a year of construction, according to the city’s Chamber of Commerce.

The new car dealership will join at least a dozen in operation along Interstate 10 in the Boerne area. It will be the city’s first Honda dealership. Plans for the project have been in the works since 2023, when the Pohanka Automotive Group franchisees won a national bid to bring it to fruition in the rapidly growing Hill Country town.

After the announcement, some residents in the often development-averse suburb have raised concerns about the addition of yet another car dealership. The project officially broke ground in June 2025, with the Chamber of Commerce announcing the start of construction on Facebook.

“Great another dealership 🙄 You should really listen to the people who actually live in this area , we don’t want this,” one local wrote in the comments of the social post.

About 30 miles north of San Antonio, Boerne’s southern gateway is dominated by a cluster of auto dealerships. This stretch includes Boerne Dodge Chrysler Jeep Ram, Cavender Chevrolet, Vic Vaughan Toyota of Boerne, Ford of Boerne, Land Rover Boerne, INFINITI of Boerne, Principle Hyundai Boerne Service & Parts and Nissan of Boerne. In addition, three smaller detailing and import shops are located nearby off I-10 along Scenic Loop Road.

“I’ve never seen such a small town with so many dealerships. Wild. Mostly worried about all the light pollution,” another Facebook user responded to the 2025 announcement.

“Yes, we have lots of dealerships,” Amy Story, the CEO of the Boerne Kendall County Economic Development Corporation, previously told MySA. “But they bring lots of good jobs to the city.”

Story also said that Honda is committed to investing in the community and will ultimately bring 100 jobs to the area. Last August, after the devastating Hill Country floods, Honda promised to match relief fund donations up to $25,000 on behalf of victims.

Progress does appear to be moving along. As of late April, the out shell appears nearly complete but there are still mounds of dirt and signs of construction.

Honda of Boerne has not responded to a request for comment.
