Garvin shared photos on Tuesday introducing viewers to his first grandchild, a baby boy named after him. In the post, he and his wife, Lisa, cradle the newborn, beaming.
“Hello world! Say ‘hi’ to our very first grandchild…Ezra Keith!!!” Garvin wrote.
He followed with a glimpse at how the moment is already reshaping their lives.
“We are absolutely in love with this little baby boy & thanking God for this beautiful blessing,” he wrote. “It feels like our lives & world have been re-centered and we love it.”
The longtime Houston anchor said both the baby and his daughter are doing well. Ezra was born earlier this month, and the experience of meeting him quickly became unforgettable.
“It feels absolutely amazing to be a grandfather! Life really changed the moment I held him for the first time,” Garvin told Chron, recalling how the newborn opened his eyes as he spoke to him before deciding it was time to eat.
Garvin, who has four daughters, quickly saw the comment section fill up with disbelief from viewers who weren’t expecting the news.
“No way you’re old enough to be a Grandpa,” one person wrote.
Garvin leaned into it, “I definitely feel old…but still pretty spry!”
He said he hears that reaction often. “I laugh every time I hear that,” he said, adding that while he may feel his age some days, he and his wife had kids young, so they could stay active as grandparents.
As for what kind of grandfather he hopes to be, Garvin said his role will be rooted in faith and showing up.
“I want my grandson to know that I love Jesus more than anything. But I also want him to know that I love him dearly,” he said, adding that he plans to be there for games, milestones and simple traditions like fishing trips and ice cream outings.
Garvin has been a familiar face in Houston living rooms since joining KPRC 2 in 2012 and anchors weekday evening newscasts.
