EL PASO, TEXAS (KFOX14/CBS4) — Students in the El Paso Independent School District got a hands-on look at careers in law and public service during a career expo on Tuesday.

EPISD’s Career & Technical Education department, in partnership with Junior Achievement and Workforce Solutions Borderplex, hosted its 2nd Annual Law and Public Service Career Expo on Tuesday at the El Paso County Coliseum.

According to the district, nearly 1,300 students enrolled in Fire Science, Health Science, JROTC, and Law Enforcement programs participated in Tuesday’s expo, which allowed students to network with professionals and participate in hands-on activities.

At the event, students were able to interact directly with industry professionals, explore specialized equipment, and take part in mock interviews with employers.

Speaking to KFOX14/CBS4 on Tuesday, Jonah Herd, military programs project manager with Workforce Solutions Borderplex, said the event helps students transition into the workforce.

“Junior Achievement and Workforce Solutions Borderplex are really working on getting awareness out to our youth so that they know the programs and opportunities that are available here in our region, so that as they transition out of high school, they know that they can land and stay here, and find a good-paying job, a well-paying job.”

According to the district, the expo aimed to immerse students in career exploration by connecting classroom learning with real-world opportunities.
