Nathaniel Ellis, 39, was arrested Monday for making a false report eliciting an emergency response, according to the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office. Officers also determined Ellis had two outstanding felony warrants.
Officers pulled over a driver speeding in a school zone in the 10000 block of FM 830 on Monday, according to the sheriff’s office. Upon being pulled over, the driver reportedly claimed he was speeding because a student at Conroe High School was in possession of a firearm and was involved in an altercation with his son.
The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, Conroe ISD Police Department, Montgomery County Constable Precincts 1 and 2, the Texas Department of Public Safety, Conroe Fire and the Montgomery County Hospital District responded to the Conroe High School to investigate the threat.
Officials secured the school and located the child in question. Investigations confirmed that the child was safe and no firearm had been displayed. School staff also verified that no altercation had taken place in the classroom.
“The subsequent investigation found that the driver lied in an attempt to not receive a citation,” the sheriff’s office wrote to Facebook.
The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office said the department takes every report of a weapon on campus seriously, reminding the community that there are serious consequences for making a false report.
“A false report of a firearm in a school classroom is a criminal offense under Texas law, punishable as a state jail felony,” the sheriff’s office wrote. “Such reports divert critical law enforcement resources, disrupt the learning environment, and create real fear and trauma for students and staff who deserve to feel safe every single day. This will not be tolerated.”
