All aboard the DART Student Art Contest! NBC 5 and Telemundo 39 partnered with DART for their annual art contest, open to students K-12. Students had the opportunity to unleash their creativity for a chance to see their work on one of DART’s trains or buses! Winners for the contest were announced at the DART Student Art Contest Award Ceremony on Saturday, April 25. Telemundo 39’s Norma Garcia served as the event’s emcee.
There were many exciting incentives for students to enter this year’s art contest. Students could receive cash and prizes as well as the opportunity to have their artwork featured in galleries and on DART buses and trains! This year’s Best in Show winner was Iñigo Pio Millora from J.L. Long Middle School in Dallas. Iñigo’s artwork will be displayed on DART buses and trains across the city!
This year’s theme, “Discover new horizons,” reminded riders of all ages of all there is to explore in the world! Every ride on DART can take you to a new place where you can discover something new and broaden your horizons. Whether you ride a DART bus, DART Rail, GoLink, the TRE, the Dallas Streetcar, the M-Line Trolley or DART’s newest regional rail service, the Silver Line, every stop is an adventure waiting to happen. The winning artwork not only celebrated that, but it taught students of the prominent role that public transportation plays in their lives.
Contest rules stated that DART must be incorporated into the design in some way, such as using the DART logo, a DART vehicle, a DART facility and/or the word “DART” in their artwork. The theme’s wording, “Discover new horizons,” also had to be included in the design.
Congratulations to all the participants in this year’s DART Student Art Contest!
