But is everything actually bigger in Texas? For the North Texas food scene, that answer may be yes.

Over the past several months, we’ve seen an uptick in giant, monstrous foods. From savory hot dogs to tasty pastries, our region has had it all.
Here’s what you need to know about the giant foods across Dallas-Fort Worth.
El Reyno Elotes y Taquería’s hamburger, hot dog
In the last year, a Mexican restaurant in Hurst has launched not one, but two massive foods: a hamburger and a hot dog.

The burger, called La Reyna or The Queen, weighs almost 6 pounds and measures 16 inches.

It’s a Mexican-style burger that, in addition to 1.5 pounds of beef, includes 1.5 pounds of trompo meat, ham, three types of cheese, beans, tomato, onion, avocado, lettuce, mayonnaise, ketchup and mustard. There are also a few mozzarella sticks inside. And if that wasn’t enough, it comes with a side of fries and chili.

The restaurant’s hot dog, possibly the region’s biggest, measures 2 feet long and weighs 6 pounds. But don’t think it’s some regular dog with bun and sausage. In addition to the bun, this dish features four grilled links stuffed with cheese, trompo meat, bacon, pineapple, cheese sauce and jalapeño peppers. All of that is accompanied by a generous serving of fries.
Both come with a challenge: Eat the entire burger in less than 30 minutes, by yourself, and receive $150 in cash, or eat the hot dog in 15 minutes and win over $100.

Con Azucar Cafe’s concha, coffee
This Instagram-worthy Fort Worth cafe sells the largest concha in D-FW, and to go with it, an equally massive cup of coffee or hot chocolate.

A concha is one of the most traditional and popular items in Mexican bakeries. It is a soft, fluffy sweet bread, covered with a crunchy sugar crust and decorated with a pattern that mimics seashells. It’s commonly dipped in coffee or hot chocolate.
Con Azucar Cafe sells a giant version of the traditional Mexican concha, which has gained popularity on social media.

To dip the mega concha at Con Azucar, though, you will need two hands. It weighs 3 pounds, and is paired with a cup of coffee or hot chocolate that holds more than a gallon of liquid. This can easily feed a dozen people.

Torteria Insurgentes’ torta
This week, a Mexican restaurant in Dallas launched its giant torta.
A torta is a popular Mexican sandwich served hot or cold on a crispy baguette-style roll filled with meats, cheeses and toppings.
Torteria Insurgentes’ torta weighs 7 pounds and includes 1 pound of breaded chicken, 1 pound of breaded beef, 1 pound of ham, 1 pound of sausage, 1/4 pound of bacon, 1/2 pound of chorizo, four eggs, 1 pound of vegetables (tomato, onion, jalapeño pepper) and one avocado served on a giant bun. It also comes with two liters of agua fresca.

If you finish this huge Mexican sandwich in under 20 minutes, you win $150, but if you fail, you have to pay $75.

Happiest Hour’s burger
This bar in Dallas has been on the trend of giant foods for a few years now.

Just when you thought another form of giant food wasn’t possible, a Dallas Vietnamese restaurant entered the chat with an enormous bowl of pho.

It weighs between 9 and 12 pounds, and includes a combination of meat and plenty of noodles. The challenge with this massive bowl of soup is if you can finish it in under an hour, you’ll receive $200. Are you up pho it?

Globe Life Field’s 9th Inning Rally Sombrero
The Texas Rangers are known for their absurdly large foods at baseball games. This season, the team came out swinging with a giant sombrero filled with nine-layer dip.

The 9th Inning Rally Sombrero is a fried tortilla in the shape of a 26-inch diameter edible hat. It’s filled with layers of tortilla, refried beans, cheddar cheese, guacamole, pico de gallo, black olives, jalapeños, shredded lettuce and sour cream.

There’s no challenge with this one, but it is recommended not to wear this hat. You can’t tell from the photo, but it’s incredibly heavy, and you could end up with a lap full of dip.
