Students and staff at Belton ISD raised over $5,000 for the United Way of Central Texas through the annual Spirit Chain fundraiser.
BELTON, Texas — Students and staff at Belton ISD raised over $5,000 for the United Way of Central Texas this October through the district’s Spirit Chain fundraiser.
Over two weeks, students across the district bought links for the spirit chain for 25 cents each. As more links were purchased, the chains got longer, and the total donation grew.
In all, Belton ISD raised a total of $5,396.17 for the United Way of Central Texas. Elementary campuses reportedly brought in $1,430.56, middle school campuses raised $469.61 and the high schools raised $120.
In addition to the student donations, staff members combined $340 in one-time gifts with $3,036 in payroll contributions to bring the final total over $5,000.
The funds will reportedly help the United Way support initiatives in health, financial stability, education and basic needs for Central Texas families.
The Spirit Chain fundraiser is a long standing tradition at Belton ISD. The presentation of the chains, where each chain is stretched out across the football field to see how long they are, did not happen this year due to rain, but that doesn’t make the donation any less impactful, the district said.
“This tradition is about so much more than coins and paper links,” said Belton ISD Superintendent Dr. Malinda Golden. “It’s about students understanding that even small acts of kindness can make a big impact. Together, we’re helping build a stronger community.”
“Belton ISD has a long history of stepping up for our community,” said Manuel Alcozer, Belton ISD Board President. “Seeing our students lead with heart and purpose is inspiring. Their efforts show the true strength of our Big Red Community; when we come together, we make a real difference.”
