Severe thunderstorm warning issued for Austin area until 2:45 p.m.

A severe thunderstorm warning is in effect for the Austin area, including the cities of Austin, Lakeway and Buda, until 2:45 p.m. Thursday.

The National Weather Service says the main threats are wind up to 60 mph and quarter-sized hail.

“Hail damage to vehicles is expected. Expect wind damage to roofs, siding, and trees,” NWS said.

A severe thunderstorm watch means storms are capable of forming, and you should be prepared to take action if it progresses into a warning. A severe thunderstorm warning means there is “imminent danger to life and property,” and you should take shelter immediately, according to the NWS.

A flood watch has also been issued for many Central Texas counties, including Travis, Williamson and Hays counties, from 9 p.m. Thursday through Friday evening, NWS said.

A flood watch means flooding is possible. A flood warning or flash flood warning means that flooding is about to happen or is already happening, and people should action immediately.
