Northbound I-35 in Austin reopens after fatal crash shuts down upper deck for hours

AUSTIN, Texas — A person is dead after their vehicle collided with a barrier on the upper deck of I-35 in central Austin on Wednesday night.

Austin police say that the crash occurred around 9:03 p.m. in the 3800 block of northbound I-35 on the upper deck of the freeway.

APD said that the vehicle collided with a barrier.

The driver was taken to Seton Medical Center where they were pronounced dead, according to police.

The northbound lanes on the upper deck were shut down while police worked the scene; they were reopened around 12:30 a.m. Thursday morning.
