Dallas police are stepping up their downtown presence as the city prepares to host thousands of visitors for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The department is expanding its downtown unit from about 90 officers to 120 and rolling out new patrol initiatives to enhance visibility, crowd management, and safety.

The increased staffing is part of a broader citywide effort to strengthen security in high-traffic areas before the global soccer tournament arrives. Dallas will be one of several U.S. host cities, with matches expected to draw international crowds and major media attention.

City officials say downtown crime has already declined in recent months, with violent offenses down roughly 16% and nuisance crimes dropping nearly 30%. Police leaders credit the improvements to targeted patrols, community partnerships, and ongoing coordination with federal and international agencies ahead of the World Cup.
