Arguably Corpus Christi’s most crucial water source amid staggering drought has been the Mary Rhodes Pipeline — infrastructure that traces a 100-mile path between Lake Texana, near Edna, and the O.N. Stevens Water Treatment Plant in Corpus Christi.
Completed within about a two-year period, it went into commission in 1998 and, nearly three decades later, is responsible for providing about 70% of Corpus Christi’s water supply.
Rhodes, who was mayor from 1991 to 1997, played a key role in its development.
