San Antonio police arrested a man they say stole copper from a CPS Energy facility on the South Side.
Genaro Jesus Rivera Jr., 39, was arrested Wednesday and charged with theft of copper, criminal mischief, and damage or destruction of critical infrastructure. He was booked at the Bexar County jail and his bail was set at $90,000.
According to an arrest affidavit, Rivera is accused of stealing from the facility at 8901 Corpus Christi Hwy on Feb. 5, 2026.
An investigator with CPS Energy provided San Antonio police with surveillance footage of the theft, according to the affidavit.
The footage showed Rivera in the location where the copper wire was cut and showed him jumping over the security fence to exit the facility, the affidavit states.
Police officers met with Rivera on the morning of the theft. At the time, they found that he had red bolt cutters, cut cables of copper wire, and was wearing the same clothing as the person seen in the surveillance footage.
The CPS Energy investigator who contacted the police told them that Rivera had caused $3,068 in damages and that the estimate included damage to property, overhead costs, and labor costs for repairs.
