An arrest has been made in connection with the drive-by shooting that left three people injured with gunshot wounds overnight in downtown New Braunfels on Sunday, May 3, according to police.
The shooting occurred just around 12:30 a.m. in the 100 block of North Seguin Avenue, according to the New Braunfels Police Department. Officers responded and found two men and one woman injured from the shooting.
Investigators said two men had been involved in a physical altercation with the suspected shooter, who was later identified as 25-year-old Josiah Anthony Arevalo of New Braunfels. After the fight, Arevalo allegedly entered a vehicle, located the two men downtown and fired several rounds from a handgun while driving away from the scene.
A 25-year-old woman and a 25-year-old man were transported to Ascension Seton Hays Hospital in Kyle for treatment. A 27-year-old man was transported to Brook Army Medical Center in San Antonio. All three were from New Braunfels and are currently listed in stable condition.
Investigators believe the two male victims were the intended targets, while the female victim was an uninvolved bystander.
Officers were able to locate Arevalo, who had fled the scene before police arrived, and he turned himself in without further incident, according to the police. He was transported to the Comal County Jail, where he was charged with three counts of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon.
The investigation into this incident remains active, and additional charges may be filed.
