One Palestine police officer took on a unique 46-mile challenge on Sunday to support local students and their graduation celebration.
Officer Miguel Varnado ran from the Palestine Police Department to the Tyler Police Department South Substation as part of an effort called “Run for a Reason.”
The run was aimed at raising funds for the Palestine Independent School District’s Project Graduation program.

According to a post from the department, Varnado undertook the run not for recognition but to benefit local students. Project Graduation helps provide high school seniors with a safe and memorable celebration as they reach a major milestone.
“We are proud to stand behind Officer Varnado for his dedication, his heart, and his commitment to this community — on and off duty,” the department said in its announcement.
Community members were encouraged to show support along the route by waving, honking or offering words of encouragement. Donations to the cause were also accepted through digital payment platforms promoted by the department.
Organizers said every mile of the run was dedicated to local students and their future.
