High temperatures are expected to drop by Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) Amarillo office. As a cold front moves in, meteorologists are warning of “roller coaster-like temperatures.”
Tuesday night, the Panhandle could see lows around 44, according to the detailed NWS forecast. By Wednesday night, temperatures could drop into the upper 30s.
“High temperatures Tuesday and Wednesday will range from 70s in the south to 50s and 60s in the north,” Amarillo forecasters wrote in their outlook Sunday. “Morning lows will be noticeably cooler in the 30s and 40s, especially by (Thursday) morning when freezing conditions will be possible across the northwest Panhandles.”
There is a very low chance residents could see some wintry precipitation mixing in for the far northwest Panhandles on Wednesday morning. A frost or freeze will be possible Wednesday night across the northern and central Panhandles.
And of course, there’s renewed potential for more rain.
“There is a low chance for an isolated weak thunderstorm or two Tuesday afternoon,” according to the NWS Amarillo outlook.
In North Texas, Dallas-Fort Worth residents could see mid-week development of strong to severe storms Tuesday night into Wednesday, particularly near and east of I-35.
“Overall, the severe weather threat is low given most of the instability will reside just south of our region,” forecasters with the NWS Dallas-Fort Worth Office wrote in their outlook.
In Southeast Texas, Houstonians can also anticipate a chance of severe storms Wednesday as a cold front pushes in, according to the NWS Houston-Galveston Office.
While details and timing may change in the coming days, forecasters are warning of a 15 to 29 percent chance of severe storms for areas along and north of I-10 on Wednesday.
Rain chances also return around the middle of the week in Austin and San Antonio, according to the local NWS office.
“Isolated thunderstorms could develop and move into the Hill Country by Wednesday morning with low precipitation chances spreading east to the portions of the I-35 corridor and coastal plans Wednesday,” read the outlook Sunday.
