Well now let’s introduce you to the chicken wing king of Wyoming. His name is Trent Weitzel, and his Double Dubs is a four-time festival favorite at the National Buffalo Wing Festival in Buffalo, N.Y. After much success in Wyoming, Buffalo and beyond, Weitzel is bringing his famed chicken wing business to Texas.
Weitzel recently told Andrew Rossi of Cowboy State Daily that the Double Dubs food truck is opening a location in the Lone Star State this month.
“This one will be opening in the Fort Worth-Dallas area on May 13,” Weitzel told the publication. It’s unclear where in the DFW metroplex Weitzel is opening this truck; Double Dubs has yet to respond to Chron’s request for more information.
Still, this is a business with a proven track record. Weitzel started the business more than a decade ago, even resigning as a high school diving coach to take his wings to the next level. Double Dubs earned plenty of fans while based in Laramie, home to the University of Wyoming. One of those fans happened to become one of the biggest names in professional sports: former Wyoming quarterback and current Buffalo Bills signal caller Josh Allen.
The connection with Allen helped Double Dubs become even more popular among the folks who flipping invented the Buffalo wing. It’s even put his food truck on the radar of Guy Fieri.
Double Dubs has since expanded from Wyoming, with additional food truck locations in Colorado, South Carolina and Wisconsin. Texas is the next step.
