AUSTIN (KXAN) — Another dominant performance, another weekly honor by the Southeastern Conference for Texas ace pitcher Dylan Volantis.

Volantis was named a Co-Pitcher of the Week, the conference announced Monday. He helped the Longhorns secure their seventh SEC series victory with a 12-strikeout quality start to fuel a 3-1 win in the series opener against Mississippi State on May 1. Volantis held the potent Bulldogs offense scoreless over six innings, allowing three singles in 107 pitches.

It’s the second time Volantis has earned the conference’s weekly honor. The first came on Feb. 16 after he recorded his first win of the season against UC Davis.
Volantis shared the honor with Louisiana State’s Zac Cowan, who pitched 10 innings over two outings, one in relief and one as a starter, with 14 strikeouts and no runs allowed.
Arkansas’ Kuhio Aloy and Kentucky’s Tyler Bell shared player of the week honors, and Kentucky’s Braxton Van Cleave was named the freshman of the week.
Texas (35-10, 15-8 SEC) plays its last midweek game of the season at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday against UTSA at UFCU Disch-Falk Field. The Longhorns head to Knoxville, Tennessee, for a 3-game series with the Tennessee Volunteers beginning Friday.
