Dozens of parents with children attending Plano ISD schools are raising concerns following the elimination of some bus routes. Families must now find alternative transportation for their children going to and from school.

It’s part of the district’s 2025-2026 bus transportation plan. Letters sent to parents in March said the district updated zones that once qualified as hazardous for students living within two miles of campus.

The district will discontinue busing for some zones that are now deemed safe per state recommendations. Our Partners at The Dallas Morning News are reporting that anywhere between 950 and 1,300 students will feel the impact.

The district pointed to economic challenges.

“Their transportation costs are increasing rapidly. School officials are citing labor shortages and inflation. Last year, the district spent $20 million on transportation,” said Lilly Kersh, a reporter with The Dallas Morning News

Parents, some of whom must walk to school, have been commenting on social media.

“Families that used to have a bus stop right outside their home are now scrambling to find another option like carpooling or rearranging their work schedules,” said Kersh. “But at the end of the day, the district says it’s parents’ responsibility to get their kids to school safely.”
