Museum at Texas Tech Celebrates US with a Community-Curated Exhibit

LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – (News release from the Museum at Texas Tech)

WHAT:

The Museum at Texas Tech University invites the Lubbock and South Plains communities to take part in a special community-curated exhibition commemorating the 250th anniversary of the United States.

WHEN:

Collecting Day One: 2-4 p.m. May 10 (Sunday)

Collecting Day Two: 10 a.m. to noon May 16 (Saturday)

WHERE:

Memorial Room in the Museum at Texas Tech University, 3301 Fourth St.

EVENT:

Community members are encouraged to share historic memorabilia, bicentennial items, family heirlooms and Americana treasures by bringing them to one of two scheduled collecting days. Museum curators will review items for possible inclusion in the exhibition.

The exhibition is set to open July 3 and will be on view through September. The exhibition will offer a unique opportunity to see local history featured as part of this national milestone. This is the community’s chance to see local history become part of a museum exhibition and help tell the story of America’s 250th anniversary.

Please note the museum has specific guidelines for what can be accepted.

Items can only be brought in and reviewed during the May 10 and May 16 collecting days. The museum cannot accept or review items outside of the collecting dates.There is no guarantee that an object will be accepted or used in the exhibition.Museum curators will review objects on site during the collection days to determine whether they are a good fit for the exhibition. If selected, lenders will be required to complete loan paperwork at that time. Items will be returned after the exhibition closes.
