LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – Texas Tech pitcher NiJaree Canady was officially selected in the AUSL Draft on Monday.
The Red Raider standout was selected No. 2 overall by the Texas Volts. She is the first Texas Tech player to be drafted in the AUSL.
Canady was officially “welcomed” into the AUSL after receiving a Golden Ticket earlier this year, meaning she was going to be drafted into the league.
Last season, eight different student-athletes were given the prestigious honor.
This season, Canady has posted a 1.30 ERA, to go along with 194 strike outs in the 135 innings through the conclusion of the regular season.
The Red Raiders are now preparing for the Big 12 Tournament as they are set to take on Baylor this Thursday in the first round.
The Volts, who will be playing their second season in the AUSL, start this upcoming year on June 9 with a three-game series on the road against the Oklahoma City Spark.
The Volts play their home games in Austin at Dell Diamond.
