EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14/CBS4) — El Paso Animal Services officers responded to a high volume of calls this week, handling 641 service requests and issuing 166 violations as part of ongoing efforts to protect both residents and their pets.
Amid the busy workload, the department is spotlighting a heartwarming international reunion.
Officers recently found a lost dog whose microchip information was current, allowing them to quickly identify and contact the owner.
The only complication: the dog’s family lived across the border in Ciudad Juárez, Mexico.
Undeterred, Animal Services staff coordinated with the owner to arrange a safe meeting at an international bridge. Thanks to their efforts, the dog was successfully reunited with its family, turning a potentially distressing situation into a joyful outcome.
Officials say the story highlights the critical role microchipping plays in reuniting lost pets with their owners—no matter the distance.
This is a perfect example of why microchipping matters,” the department shared. “Chips help bring families back together.
El Paso Animal Services is encouraging pet owners to ensure their animals are microchipped and that registration details are up to date. The department is hosting several free microchipping events throughout the month, with dates and locations available on its online calendar.
