Nueces County deputies say a stolen handgun was recovered after a vehicle crashed during an overnight pursuit.
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Two men were seriously injured early Wednesday morning after a vehicle fleeing deputies crashed near Interstate 37 and Highway 286, according to Nueces County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy David Cook.
Chief Cook said deputies were patrolling the downtown area around 12:36 a.m. and patrolling the old courthouse, a routine nightly check for trespassers, when they spotted a vehicle doing donuts on Chaparral St. near Palo Alto St.

Deputies attempted a traffic stop for the violation, but the driver sped away onto the northbound I-37 at a high rate of speed, Chief Cook said.
The pursuit continued until the vehicle tried to turn near Highway 286 and crashed into a wall near the interchange.
Chief Cook said both men inside the vehicle suffered serious injuries and were taken to a hospital.
The Corpus Christi Police Department worked the crash investigation, and deputies said they recovered a handgun believed to have been thrown onto the roadway during the chase.
According to the Chief Cook, the weapon was reported stolen in Corpus Christi.
Authorities said the two men are expected to face charges, including evading in a vehicle. The investigation remains ongoing.
