AUSTIN, Texas – Millions of Americans have started college but never finished. In fact, a 2025 study by the National Student Clearinghouse reports that more than 43 million people attended some college but left without earning a degree or credential. For many, financial, personal, or family challenges got in the way.
The good news? Those years of work and life experience may still count toward a college degree. Through programs that award credit for prior learning, students can potentially save time and money by converting what they already know into college credit rather than starting over.
Devin Andrews, Vice President of Admissions and Evaluation at University of Phoenix, recently spoke with We Are Austin’s Sierra Waggoner about how adults can take advantage of these opportunities. Andrews discussed how learners can transfer existing college credits, earn credit for relevant work or life experience, and create accelerated pathways to degree completion.
She also highlighted a free mobile app that helps prospective students identify cost savings through potential transfer credit and credit for prior learning.
