Authorities in Austin have released the name of the person who died in an overnight shooting at an Austin-area restaurant that also left four others injured. 

The shooting happened early Wednesday, April 6, inside Down South CaJJun Eats, 15424 FM1825, Pflugerville, TX 78660, a suburb just north of Austin. Officers with the Austin Police Department responded to the parking lot of the restaurant around 1:30 a.m. on Wednesday, after receiving a call regarding a shooting.

The original altercation occurred inside the Cajun restaurant and escalated into a shooting, APD said in a news release. The incident then spilled out into the parking lot, APD officer Austin Zarling said during a news briefing. Upon arrival, officers found a man with visible trauma to the body and began providing life-saving measures. Additional officers located multiple victims with apparent trauma to their bodies. 

Police said in total, five people were transported to local area hospitals, three of whom had non-life-threatening injuries. One person had a serious injury, and another was pronounced dead at approximately 2:13 a.m. APD later identified the man who died as 28-year-old Mykal Jones. 

The other four gunshot victims were treated at area hospitals and are currently in stable condition. It’s currently unclear what exactly led up to the incident. A video released by APD, captured by a witness inside the restaurant, showed several men involved in an altercation and shots being fired shortly after. 

APD officer Zarling said the suspects fled the scene while officers were conducting their investigation. While at the restaurant, APD received another 911 “gun hotshot call” near the 15000 block of Howard Lane.

“When officers arrived there through their investigation, they located suspects that they believe to be the same suspects for this homicide here,” Zarling said. “Those suspects are now detained by Austin Police.” 

Police added that there’s no threat to the general public, and this is being considered an isolated incident. Austin police are investigating the incident along with assistance from Pflugerville Police and the Travis County Sheriff’s Office (TCSO). This is being investigated as Austin’s 22nd homicide of 2026.
